TSG extend Bičakčić's contract

Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim have extended the contract of their longest-serving player. Fan favourite Ermin Bičakčić has penned a new deal until 30 June 2023.

"Ermin's popularity at the club and among the fans speaks for itself and is the result of hard, honest and loyal work on and off the pitch," said TSG director of football Alexander Rosen. "For more than a year, he has been suffering from great uncertainty due to his serious knee injury. But he fought his way back towards the end of last season," Rosen commented. "It naturally goes without saying that we always supported him during this time and now continue to accompany him as he gets back to his former strength."

Bičakčić moved to the Kraichgau from Eintracht Braunschweig in summer 2014. "In the fast-moving world of football, a long collaboration like this is something special. We've experienced a lot together; we've gone through ups and downs together. I'd also like to emphasise my relationship with the fans and their appreciation. The personal support I've had here, especially in the past months and weeks, is extraordinary," said the defender, who is optimistic about the future after recovering from a torn cruciate ligament. "I'm going into pre-season with great desire and a clear focus, and I'll give everything for the club and the fans, who have grown close to my heart."

The 32-year-old Bosnia international, who took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has made 121 Bundesliga appearances (six goals), four in the Champions League, two in the Europa League and 11 in the DFB-Pokal (one goal) for TSG. Previously, Bičakčić played for Eintracht Braunschweig and the youth set-ups of VfB Stuttgart and FC Heilbronn, among others.
