Baumann: ''We have to deliver more''

Here's what the players and coaches had to say after the 2-1 defeat at home to VfL Bochum.

Oliver Baumann: "We set out to play a lot better after the first half. That was actually going well, but then we let ourselves get a little bit carried away before conceding the goal. Bochum were sitting very deep and having the lead played into their hands. The same goes for the way we spent a lot of time appealing to the referee. It's not good enough, and it comes across a bit immature. It has to be clear to us: if we want to achieve something, we have to deliver more."

Chris Richards: ''We created good opportunities, but we weren't able to make the most of them. Unfortunately, we lacked focus in the key moments. The defeat obviously stings, we'll have to put it to the back of our minds this coming week and do better in Leipzig.''

Sebastian Hoeness: ''We didn't get the game off to a good start and needed something extra. It's always tough against Bochum. We wanted to play through their press, but unfortunately we weren't able to get enough forward passes. After ten minutes, things started to work a bit better, which resulted in two or three good chances that we failed to capitalise on. Then, just as we were in our best phase of the match, Bochum were ruthless. After that, the game turned in their favour, and we were fortunate not to go in at half-time 2-0 down on the scoreboard. We showed a different side of ourselves at the start of the second half and had two great chances before we grabbed the equaliser to make it 1-1. Unfortunately, we then needlessly threw away the momentum. We exposed ourselves to a 50-50 duel on the halfway line and ended up being punished for it. We took some time to find our feet after that, but we had some good chances later on, which again we didn't make the most of. That's why we couldn't get a point today against a cool-headed Bochum team.''

Thomas Reis (VfL Bochum coach): ''We're obviously extremely happy with the three points. As far as I saw it, we were well in this game from the start. We wanted to be compact in midfield in order to keep Hoffenheim at bay. After taking the lead, we even had the chance to make it 2-0, but instead we conceded the equaliser and looked to be floundering. But we fought our way back and retook the lead. With this victory, we have taken a big step towards our goal of staying in the league.''
