Laura Wienroither joins Arsenal with immediate effect

After three and a half years with TSG Hoffenheim, defender Laura Wienroither will join English league leaders Arsenal with immediate effect. The Austria international has played in all Champions League and Bundesliga matches this season. In total the 23-year-old, who joined the second-tier team from SKN Pölten in 2018 and was then promoted to the Bundesliga squad half a year later, made 40 appearances for TSG in Germany's top flight. "I'm unbelievably thankful for the past few years and have always felt comfortable at this club," Wienroither said. "I've had the opportunity here to develop consistently and make my first appearances in the Bundesliga. Now a new challenge awaits me: another country, another language, another style of football. I hope this transfer will allow me to take the next steps in both my personal and sporting development."

Samassékou helps Mali to win in opening game

It was a perfect start to the Africa Cup of Nations for Diadie Samassékou, whose Mali side beat Tunisia 1-0 in the opening game of Group F. The Hoffenheim player was included in the starting XI and played the full 90 minutes against the Tunisians, who were considered to be one of the pre-tournament favourites. Mali's next match comes on Sunday (16 January at 14:00 CET) when they take on Gambia, before rounding off the group against Mauritania next Thursday (20 January). Many congratulations on the opening win, Diadie!

Conditioning coach Seiler promoted to senior squad

The conditioning coaches for the TSG senior squad have gained a reinforcement: Martin Seiler, previously responsible for the U19s, will now oversee the licensed players and support the two conditioning coaches already in place, Christian Weigl and Philipp Lussi. The appointment underlines TSG's credo of promoting not only players but talented coaches too. Seiler, 32, who was formerly one of Germany's best triple jumpers, will already be familiar to the TSG family as the coach that led the home training videos during the corona break in 2020 and has been working as a conditioning coach at TSG since 2013. He has supervised all academy teams from U12 to U19 level, and now moves up into professional football. His place as U19 conditioning coach will be taken by Markus Zidek. Zidek was previously responsible for the U23s along with Johannes Engert.

Kadeřábek out with thigh injury

TSG Hoffenheim will be without Pavel Kadeřábek for the time being. The right-back was forced off with an injury while TSG were a goal down in their game against FC Augsburg (3-1 win). Extensive examinations have now revealed that the 29-year-old Czech has sustained a muscle injury in his left thigh and will therefore be sidelined for the time being. Get well soon, Pavel!
