In-form TSG away to defensively vulnerable Leverkusen

Following their win in the top clash at SC Freiburg, TSG are in away action against another top opponent on Wednesday evening: Hoffenheim will travel to the BayArena to take on Bayer 04 Leverkusen at 20:30 CET (Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). A victory would lift coach Sebastian Hoeness' side above Leverkusen in the table. Their four-match winning streak combined with their improved recent record in head-to-head meetings will give them plenty of confidence. We have compiled the most important facts and figures on #B04TSG for you below.

Did you know that…

…TSG have recently fared well against Bayer 04?

Following their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2008, things did not initially go all that well for Hoffenheim against Leverkusen: TSG took only one point from their first 11 encounters with Bayer 04. But the Kraichgau club have recently improved that record significantly, losing only two of their last 11 meetings with Leverkusen (W5 D4).

…Hoffenheim still have a considerable chance of victory even if they fall behind?

Prior to Matchday 16, TSG are the only team in the league to come from behind to win three times. Bayer 04, however, lost for the second time after being in a winning position in their 5-2 defeat in Frankfurt last time out.

…coach Sebastian Hoeness' team are having success on the road too?

For the first time since June 2020, TSG have won two consecutive away matches in the Bundesliga – as many victories as they amassed in the previous 16 away games combined. The total of three away wins this season is already as many as in the entirety of last term.

…Bayer 04 are currently defensively vulnerable?

Coach Gerardo Seoane's team have already conceded 24 goals this season – their second-worst defensive record at this stage of a season after the 2018/19 campaign (27). Furthermore, Frankfurt were already the third team this season to score at least four goals against Bayer 04.

…Leverkusen forward Patrik Schick is currently in outstanding form?

The Czech international is the first player in Bayer 04's club history to score 14 goals in the first 15 rounds. And what's more: he has actually made only 12 appearances this season.
