Gulde: "TSG are in very good form"

A reunion with a familiar face: on Saturday (15:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de), TSG Hoffenheim will be away to an SC Freiburg side containing one of their former players, Manuel Gulde. The 30-year-old played in Hoffenheim from 2007 to 2012. Prior to the match, the centre-back spoke about Freiburg's historic win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, the match against TSG and Hoffenheim's strengths.

You've made history, won 6-0 in Gladbach and sit in fourth. How realistic are the dreams of European competition?

"First of all, we'll concentrate on reaching the 40-point mark. Then we'll cast our eyes beyond. We can go into the game with a lot of confidence after the match in Mönchengladbach."

What is it that sets apart your coach Christian Streich, who is by some distance the longest-serving coach in the Bundesliga?

"There are obviously many things. If I had to pick out one, then perhaps it would be his passion for football."

You moved to your new home, the Europa-Park-Stadion, in the summer – and now you have to play without spectators. Is that a disadvantage for you?

"It is not pleasant for any home team when they have so few fans in their stadium. You could therefore label it as a minor disadvantage."

The match against TSG is not only a Baden derby, but also a meeting of two neighbours in the table. What kind of game are you expecting?

"As in the case every year against Hoffenheim, I'm expecting an intense match between two good teams. I think the result will be close."

How do you rate TSG – and what will success on Saturday come down to?

"TSG are in good form and are on a run – similar to us at the start of the season. A lot of things are coming together at the moment. They have good players, they are versatile. We'll have to get the distances right between the parts of our team, work well off and with the ball, and then the rest will come."
