Auction in aid of "TSG helps": signed illustration of Olympic champion Mihambo

TSG Hoffenheim supports the clubs in the region so that they can continue their voluntary work even in these difficult times with the Coronavirus. Since its foundation in April 2020, "TSG hilft e.V." has provided financial assistance to around 250 clubs and associations – from football clubs to music clubs. The charity are currently working with the TSG Bundesliga stars to organise a campaign, giving gifts to children in hospitals from Heilbronn to Sinsheim and Mosbach to Heidelberg. But "TSG helps" also needs donations to help. And some of that help has now come from long jump Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo. The 27-year-old from Heidelberg has signed an illustration by Holger Kliem, which is now being auctioned for charity. All of the proceeds will go to "TSG helps".

To Hoffenheim fans, Kliem is best known as a press spokesman, and since 2014 he has been head of the media department of the Bundesliga side. But in addition to football, the 47-year-old has a second passion – drawing, sketching and illustrating. "Malaika's summer competition in Tokyo, which went right down to the wire, had me glued to the television. I kept my fingers crossed for her and I was delighted for her," says Kliem. He said Mihambo is "an extremely inspiring young woman, who also represents the committed work of the clubs and the promotion of top-class sport in the region," says Kliem.

That is why Holger Kliem illustrated Malaika Mihambo's great moments from Tokyo for the club magazine SPIELFELD. Since then, he has bumped into the long jumper at the Olympic training base in Mannheim. They both signed an art print, which is now being auctioned in aid of "TSG helps." "I think the idea is great and I would like to take part if it can help small clubs here," said Mihambo, who is again among the favourites for this year's "Sportswoman of the Year", which will be awarded next Sunday at a gala in Baden-Baden, having already taken home the prestigious title twice in the past.

In addition to her victory at the Olympics, Mihambo is also the reigning World and European Champion. "I'm grateful that in my sporting career, I've managed to hold the three major titles at least once," she told SPIELFELD. The Olympic final in Tokyo on 3 August was a nerve-jangling, heated battle in 36-degree heat. Heading into the final round, her best mark stood at 6.95 metres, putting her just behind London's Olympic champion, Brittney Reese, and Nigeria's Ese Brume, in third place. Then she summoned up unfathomable focus to produce a seven-meter jump that vaulted her into first place. The Heidelberg native became the fourth German long jump Olympic champion after Heide Rosendahl (1972), Angela Vogt (1976 for the GDR) and Heike Drechsler (1992 and 2000).

The auction of the signed and framed picture will continue until 23 December (19:00 CET).
