Video analysis workshop with Karlsruhe KIT

Nine students from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) took part in a video analysis workshop in collaboration with TSG Hoffenheim and received their certificates in October. Further projects are to follow.

The idea of video analysis has gained enormous importance in football in recent years, but what is actually behind it all? Over the past twelve months, nine students from the Sports Science course at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) were given an exciting insight into how a video analyst works at TSG Hoffenheim. TSG offered two workshops, in which the participants prepared for an exam.

Timo Gross (co-coach of Bundesliga team TSG's analysis, and head of match analysis), as well as U23s' analyst Michael Bischof, firstly showed them the application of quantitative and qualitative match analysis, before a match plan and opponent analysis were to be prepared during self-study. In October, all of those involved met in Zuzenhausen for the participants' final presentations.

"It was tremendous fun. I, myself, was able to gain experience in professional football during my studies, and I definitely just want to pass that on," said Timo Gross. "We're already planning further workshops and collecting ideas to expand the project."

Due to the corona pandemic, the date of attendance had been postponed. Then in October, the time had finally come. All of those involved received a certificate of participation from Timo Gross and Dietmar Blicker (Deputy Managing Director of the Institute of Sport and Sport Science; Head of Football, Basic and Specialised Training at KIT).

"It's also a very interesting project for us at Hoffenheim. We get to experience other perspectives and can identify talent for video analysis at an early stage. The workshops are a door-opener for the students, but also for us as a club," said Gross.
