Rechner becomes Turkey goalkeeping coach

Great honour for Michael Rechner: the 41-year-old is joining the coaching staff of the Turkey national team, where he will fulfill the role of goalkeeping coach on an interim basis. However, he will also retain his current position at TSG.

Rechner will join the coaching team of new Turkey head coach Stefan Kuntz for the two international breaks in October and November. Kuntz, who has been in charge of the Turkey team since mid-September, also has Kenan Kocak and Jan-Moritz Lichte on his coaching team. Kuntz recently led the Germany U21s to the European Championship title in the summer.

Rechner, who has been at TSG since 2008, has been responsible for the first team's goalkeeper training since 2015 and also coordinates the keeper training of all of Hoffenheim's youth teams. During his time at the club, TSG keeper Oliver Baumann was called up for the German national team for the first time and numerous young talents - such as Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund) - have developed into established professionals. "It is an exciting job and an outstanding experience for me. I am really looking forward to working with this coaching team and I would also like to thank TSG Hoffenheim for making this move possible for me," says Michael Rechner.

In the two upcoming international breaks, Turkey will play World Cup qualification matches at home to Norway (8 October), away to Latvia (11 October), at home to Gibraltar (13 November) and away to Montenegro (16 November).
