Hübner: “A completely different attitude towards life”

After a long break through injury, TSG captain Benjamin Hübner has returned to training. The centre-back, who has played in the Kraichgau since 2016, spoke to tsg-hoffenheim.de about his physical condition, his time off the pitch and TSG’s sporting situation.

You’re back on the training pitch after a long break, how are you doing at the moment?

“I’m doing great! I’m super happy – and that’s because I’ve literally ‘caught the scent’ again. I’m really happy to be more involved with the team again.”

Which drills can you now take part in during training again?

“I’m getting back to it step-by-step. So, I can finish about half to two-thirds of the sessions with the team, and I’m still training individually too, meaning I’m still training as much as all the other players.”

How great does it feel to be getting closer and closer to “business as usual?

“It’s huge – it really is a completely different attitude towards life. Your quality of life feels so much better when you’re closer to the team. It means a lot to me to spend so much time with the boys again, and not to just be doing individual training sessions all the time.”

How was your time away from the team?

“The individual sessions were really good, and we worked really hard. After so many setbacks, we’ve finally managed to get everything back on track. I’m just really happy about that.”

You’re still watching from the outside at the moment. How do you perceive your team’s current situation?

“We’re currently lacking a bit of consistency in our performances. We had good games, but then we couldn’t quite reach the level of the previous game unfortunately. In the Bundesliga, where the standard is so high and the smallest things make a difference, you can’t afford that. If we play at our top level more often, that joy of playing comes back automatically.”
