Belfodil moves to Hertha BSC

Ishak Belfodil is leaving TSG Hoffenheim. The striker will move to Berlin to join Bundesliga rivals Hertha BSC with immediate effect. The 29-year-old's contract in the Kraichgau was set to run until the end of the current season.

"After a very clear analysis of the current situation and open discussions with Ishak, we agreed that a fresh start at another club was the most sensible solution for all sides," said TSG director of football Alexander Rosen. Belfodil was one of the Bundesliga's most prolific strikers in his first year at Hoffenheim and, together with Andrej Kramarić, formed the league's second-best strike duo in the 2018/19 season. This winning streak came to an abrupt end on the last matchday of the season, when he suffered a complex knee injury in a 4-2 defeat in Mainz. After that, Belfodil only played 25 competitive games since the summer of 2019 until now - only three of them for the full 90 minutes - and scored one goal. "Unfortunately, we were not able to continue the success story of our first season together," said Rosen, who wishes Belfodil "all the best on his future journey.''

The striker moved to Hoffenheim from Werder Bremen in July 2018. In total, he made 47 Bundesliga appearances (16 goals), five Champions League and four Europa League appearances (one goal each) and four DFB-Pokal appearances for TSG.
