Vogt: ''We want to lay down a good foundation''

High spirits in training camp: this is now Kevin Vogt's sixth preseason as a TSG player. The defender moved to Hoffenheim back in 2016. In this interview, the 29-year-old discusses his first impressions from training camp in Rottach-Egern, his goals for the week on the Tegernsee and the upcoming friendly match against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday.

Kevin, the first few training sessions are done. What have been your impressions of training camp so far?

''I think it's really beautiful here. I was absolutely delighted when I heard we'd be coming back to Tegernsee. We have the perfect conditions here and the backdrop is simply stunning. It is one of the most beautiful training camps that I've experienced in my career.''

What will it come down to during the week in Tegernsee?

''After the friendly game on Saturday, we made a point of starting training camp with a regenerative session. But we also know that we have a lot of hard grind ahead of us and will work up a real sweat. We want to lay a good foundation this week to make sure we're fit enough for the whole season. It's all about getting us up to the standard required to compete.''

On Saturday you're set to bring training camp to a close with a friendly game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. What are your goals for the game?

''A friendly like this at the end of training camp is always a good barometer of where you are. We want to be further on than we were at the start of the week. Against Heidenheim, it was clear that we weren't quite there yet. However, we should also take account of the fact that we're still missing a few key players and Heidenheim are on the cusp of kicking off their season. We want to tighten up a few things during training camp so that Saturday's game against Fürth will be better.''

Last season was one marked by a lot of extreme challenges. What will you have to focus on to make sure that the 2021/22 season will be more stable?

''We want to develop further. Last season was defined by big challenges, but we don't want to use that as an excuse. Our objective is to compete at the top of the table again and find more consistency in our play. We want to lay down a good foundation for this in training camp.''
