Raum off to Tokyo for Olympics with Germany U21s

Germany U21 coach Stefan Kuntz has announced his squad for the Olympic Games football tournament in Tokyo, which is taking place from 22 July to 7 August. Hoffenheim's new signing David Raum has been included in the 22-man squad.

"I am very proud of the call-up. Being part of the German Olympic team is not only a great honour, but also a unique experience. That makes me all the more grateful to TSG for making this possible for me," said the 23-year-old defender. "Participating in the Olympics is a great honour for David, and certainly a unique experience in his career," commented Alexander Rosen, the director of football at TSG Hoffenheim.

In 2016, two Hoffenheim players made history with the German team at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Niklas Süle and Jeremy Toljan won the silver medal the first Olympic medal won by Germany for football in almost 30 years  that summer. Germany won the bronze medal in Seoul, South Korea in 1988.

The German team, which has already won the European U21 Championship this summer, will meet on 12 July and travel to Japan a day later to face Brazil in Yokohama in the first match of their Group D campaign on 22 July (kick-off 10:00 CET). Germany's second group game against Saudi Arabia on 25 July will also take place in Yokohama and will kick off at 13:30 CET. In the third group match, the DFB team will then face Ivory Coast in Rifu on 28 July (10:00 CET).
