DFB-Pokal draw on Sunday

DFB-Pokal draw on Sunday

TSG Hoffenheim's first competitive game is edging closer. On Sunday (4 July, 18:30 CET), the ARD-Sportschau will play host to the draw for the DFB-Pokal first round. As per usual, the 32 pairings will be drawn from two pots this time by former Bundesliga player Thomas Broich. The first round of the competition will be played between 6 and 8 August. The exact date on which TSG Hoffenheim's 2021/22 campaign gets under way will be determined once the first round of Bundesliga fixtures has been precisely scheduled (13-15 August).

Friday

Klein moves to Augsburg

Daniel Klein is leaving TSG Hoffenheim. The goalkeeper is moving to Bundesliga rivals FC Augsburg. The 20-year-old's contract with the club had one year remaining and was set to run out on 20 June 2022.

Klein was part of the first-team squad last season alongside fellow goalkeepers Oliver Baumann, Philipp Pentke and Luca Philipp. The Heidelberg native joined TSG at 13 years of age in 2014. During his time in the club's youth set-up he represented Germany at youth international level (U15 to U19).

Thursday

Samassékou to miss the start of preseason training

TSG first-team player Diadie Samassékou tested positive for Coronavirus in France on Thursday. The 25-year-old midfielder will therefore miss the start of TSG Hoffenheim's preseason training on Sunday 4 July (15:00 CET). 

Monday 

Elmkies joins Admira Wacker on loan

Ilay Elmkies has joined Austrian top-flight club FC Flyeralarm Admira on loan until 30 June 2022. The 21-year-old midfielder still has a contract with TSG Hoffenheim keeping him at the club until the summer of 2023. The Israeli will be reunited in Mödling with his former national team coach Andreas Herzog, who was formerly a Bundesliga player at Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.

Elmkies moved to TSG in 2015 and progressed through all the youth ranks, before putting pen to paper on a deal with the senior team in January 2020. The central midfielder made his senior debut for Hoffenheim in a 3-0 win over Hertha BSC in May 2020. In terms of international football, Elmkies has been playing for the Israel senior team since October 2019. Last season, the midfielder was on loan at Dutch top-flight club ADO Den Haag.
