D-Raum's Olympic D-ream

David is currently missing from Hoffenheim's training camp at Lake Tegernsee. The reason for this, however, is a happy one: The left-back, who joined TSG from SpVgg Greuther Fürth, is taking part in the Olympic football tournament with the German team. On Thursday (13:30 CET), the DFB side will play Brazil in their first game.

On Thursday (22 July), it will be a dream come true for David Raum. The TSG player will take on Brazil with German side selected for the Olympic Games. At 13:30 CET, coach Stefan Kuntz's team will play against the South Americans in the first group game in Yokohama.

"Being part of the German Olympic team is not only a great honour, but also a unique experience. I'm very proud of it. I am all the more grateful to TSG for enabling me to do this," says the 23-year-old defender, who won the European Championship title in June with the German U21s.

On Thursday, just one day before the official opening ceremony of the summer games in Tokyo, David Raum will take on stars such as Dani Alves or Richarlison and represent TSG at the Olympics. The following games in Group D will see the German team play against Saudi Arabia (25 July, 13:30 CET), also in the port city of Yokohama, and Ivory Coast (28 July, 10:00 CET) in Saitama. The top two teams in the group will qualify for the quarter-finals (31 July). The semi-finals will take place on 3 August. The bronze medal match is scheduled for 6 August, and the final will be held on 7 August in Yokohama, the site of the 2002 World Cup final.

On 1 July, Raum moved from newly promoted Bundesliga side Greuther Fürth to Hoffenheim. TSG is proud to have another Olympic athlete in its ranks and we have our fingers crossed for a successful start at the training camp at Lake Tegernsee.  "Participating in the Olympics is a great honour for David and certainly a unique experience in his career," said Alexander Rosen, director of professional football at TSG. In 2016 at the Olympics in Brazil, the DFB team contained two TSG stars in Jeremy Toljan and Niklas Süle. The German side won the silver medal after a dramatic final match against hosts Brazil at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
