TSG come from behind to beat Hertha

TSG Hoffenheim continued their end-of-season charge by coming from behind to beat Hertha BSC 2-1 (0-1) on the final day. Vladimir Darida opened the scoring for the visitors in the 43rd minute, only for goals from Sargis Adamyan (49) and Andrej Kramarić (90+1) to turn the game around. TSG thus end an extremely challenging 2020/21 season in 11th place, with 43 points.

Personnel & tactics:

Head coach Sebastian Hoeness made one change to the starting XI that drew 1-1 at Arminia Bielefeld last time out. Kevin Vogt replaced the injured Kevin Akpoguma and played alongside Pavel Kadeřábek, Stefan Posch and Ryan Sessegnon in a back four in front of goalkeeper Philipp Pentke. Florian Grillitsch again partnered Diadie Samassékou in central defensive midfield, with Robert Skov, Andrej Kramarić and Sargis Adamyan forming the attacking midfield trio behind lone frontman Ihlas Bebou.

TSG made a double substitution around the hour-mark, with Sebastian Rudy and Georginio Rutter replacing Samassékou and Skov (64). Marco John replaced the injured Sessegnon in the 69th minute.

Moment of the match:

The 74th minute: everyone in the stadium applauded enthusiastically as 34-year-old Sami Khedira left the pitch. The 2014 World Cup winner, who was visibly moved, was making the last appearance of his professional career before hanging up his boots. Prior to kick-off, TSG director of football Alexander Rosen had handed Sami Khedira a Hoffenheim shirt with his name on the back.

Number of the game: 100

A late decision was made to allow 100 spectators into the PreZero Area for the final game of the season. We hope that there can be more again next season. Many thanks for your support!
