Hoeness: "We want to end on a high note"

It will be the final day of the season on Saturday, with TSG Hoffenheim set to round off the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign with a home game against Hertha BSC. Head coach Sebastian Hoeness spoke at the press conference about the personnel situation, the match on Saturday and the opposition.

Sebastian Hoeness on….

…the personnel situation: "In Kevin Akpoguma's case, the injury is not as bad as we feared, but neither he nor Chris Richards will be ready for Saturday. The absences of Christoph Baumgartner, Oliver Baumann, Dennis Geiger, Benjamin Hübner, Ermin Bičakčić, Konstantinos Stafylidis and Munas Dabbur are common knowledge. Håvard Nordtveit, Joshua Brenet and Ishak Belfodil are already with their families and will not play a part. In addition, we're without Maximilian Beier who cannot fulfil the quarantine rules due to his school exams."

…the objectives for the final game of the season: "Both teams have a run to defend. We want to win our last home game. The lads are in very fine form and in a good mood. We'll give everything we've got to finish on a high."

…the opposition: "Their success after coming out of quarantine was not a given. It's been a major triumph in a difficult situation. Something has changed within the team. Pal Dardai and his team seem to have done well there. Despite many absences, they still field a very good team. Given my Berlin past, I'm delighted they'll stay in the Bundesliga."

…his review of the season: "Everyone knows how difficult the season was for us. We've had a lot of experiences. It's still going to take time to digest all of that. After the game, we'll all sit down together briefly once again. We're already looking forward to the new season and then we want to go on the attack again."

…Sami Khedira hanging up his boots: "He's been a big-name footballer in Germany for many years. He's had a world-class career and played for very big clubs. Sami is an absolute professional and has gotten the maximum out of his career. I'm delighted that we'll see him on the pitch again on Saturday."

The opposition's form:

Thanks to a late charge that saw them go eight consecutive games unbeaten, Hertha BSC ensured their top-flight survival last Saturday after a 0-0 draw against 1. FC Cologne. Coach Pal Dardai's charges currently occupy 14th place in the table, with 35 points on the board.

Head-to-head record:

TSG have emerged as victors in 10 of their previous 21 Bundesliga meetings. There have also been five draws and six defeats. Hoffenheim won the reverse fixture in Berlin 3-0.
