Grillitsch: "We didn't have the right answer"

Here's what the players and coaches had to say after the 2-1 defeat at FC Augsburg.

Florian Grillitsch: "We went 1-0 down early and then we were chasing the game again. It was unfortunate for us, but we didn't show the right answer today; we didn't know how to create chances. For the goal that made it 2-0, the way we defended wasn't right and so we conceded another goal. Augsburg sat back after that and space was tight. Even though we got into the game more in the second half, that was not up to our standards."

Oliver Baumann: "We were asleep in the opening 25 minutes. It obviously wasn't part of our plan to get hit on the counter-attack. It's just frustrating that we fall behind so often. We concede goals too easily. We're in a situation where we also have to keep an eye on the other teams and on what's going on around us. That's annoying. That's not where we want to be, but that's how it is right now. It's frightening and it does concern me a bit."

Chris Richards: "We're obviously disappointed with the result. We gave it everything we had in the second half, but it wasn't enough. We were not alert in the first half and fell behind through two counters. That cannot be allowed to happen. We're hoping we can still have some success and pick up lots of points in the rest of the season."

Robert Skov: "We were well-prepared to deal with Augsburg's strengths, but we could not show that on the pitch in the first period. That has to work better. We're obviously extremely disappointed about the three defeats in a row. Now it's a matter of training hard next week and producing a different performance on the next matchday."

Sebastian Hoeness: "We had envisaged the match, and in particular the opening stages, differently. It was not an easy preparation period for us with the numerous international call-ups. Nonetheless, we need to be starting the game differently. It was clear that it would be difficult after we went behind. We struggled with the deficit. And that led to us conceding a second goal. It got better again in the closing stages, but it wasn't good enough in the final third. We didn't give away anything more, but the efficiency was missing today."

Heiko Herrlich (FC Augsburg coach): "I saw a very good first half from my team. We made a very good start to the game and were very dangerous. We subsequently controlled the 2-0 lead well. Afterwards we had increasingly less control, however. We lost possession too many times in the second half. It was clear that Hoffenheim could still be dangerous. Fortunately, we did enough to get the win."
