One year of the corona crisis: TSG supplies 200 gigabytes of material for the media

A whole year of the coronavirus pandemic has placed particular challenges on media work in the Bundesliga clubs. "Interviews across a table, journalists attending press conferences and TV shoots on site all had to be cancelled due to the hygiene precautions. The media were also not able to participate in training camps. The working reality of journalists and media departments changed overnight in March 2020," says Christian Frommert, director of communications at TSG Hoffenheim. "However, no one should be left out in the rain, so we have been more focused than ever on our role as a service provider," said Frommert.

In addition to building up the technical infrastructure for video conferences and remote interviews, huge packages of image, audio and information files were processed almost daily and made available via digital channels. Whether it was the classic press release, the club magazine as an e-paper, WhatsApp groups or hefty download packages on the homepage and via WeTransfer, the TSG media department continues to work with external media houses and journalists to this day.

"An offer that TV stations, radio stations, Internet portals and even the classic newspaper reporters are happy to make use of, because, of course, the coverage of sport for viewers, readers and users is expected to continue even during this extraordinary crisis. So we also supplied material from the Europa League trips abroad while the journalists remained at home due to the pandemic," says Holger Kliem, head of the ten-member TSG media team, which has been operating in a two-shift model for months now, alternating every week to contain the risk of infection. The media output produced by TSG Hoffenheim for this purpose last year comprises a data volume of around 200 gigabytes. For comparison: the entire James Bond collection of 24 feature-length films has a data volume of just over 100 GB.
