Talented youngster John signs long-term deal

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have agreed a long-term contract with academy product turned first-team player Marco John. The 18-year-old midfielder has signed a deal with the club until 30 June 2024. His previous contract was set to run until the summer of 2022.

"Marco is an extremely talented boy who has proven himself to be a real option for our Bundesliga team during what has been a challenging few months for us all given our major corona and injury problems," said director of football Alexander Rosen. "He did not need any time to settle in when he was handed responsibility on the pitch during a demanding period. Quite the contrary: he has produced strong performances and done his job on the left flank in a reliable manner and with impressive composure," explained Rosen, who went on to describe John as "another prime example of our approach of promoting talented youngsters from our own academy to the first team and continuing their development there".

The Germany U19 international joined TSG from FC Union Heilbronn aged 11 and has been a part of coach Sebastian Hoeness' first-team squad since last summer. He made his first five Bundesliga appearances in January – all in the starting XI and for the full 90 minutes. He has also played two Europa League fixtures this season.
