Hoeness: ''Achieve something historic''

TSG Hoffenheim have a unique opportunity on Thursday (18:55 CET/Liveticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de): for the first time in history, the club could reach the last 16 of a European competition. In his press conference ahead of the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 tie with Molde FK, head coach Sebastian Hoeness spoke about the personnel situation, potential qualification for the last 16 and the opposition.

Sebastian Hoeness on…

…potential qualification for the last 16:

''Regardless of the situation in the league, reaching the Round of 16 would be a massive success for the club, the team and for me personally. We reached our goal by getting past the group stage - now we want more. We want to achieve something historic. We'll need a certain humility, but also a positive mindset to make it through.''

…the first leg:

''We saw that we're capable of scoring goals if we fire on all cylinders and stay concentrated on the task at hand. We managed to not give much away until a phase when we lost our focus a bit. We've been warned and we know that we'll have to push hard on Thursday and show a lot of desire and self-belief.''

…opponents Molde FK:

''I think both sides will approach the game in a similar manner. Molde won't start in attacking mode and will only look to force attacks on the press. They can play with the certainty of knowing they have 90 minutes to score a goal. I don't think they're going to change their style of play in any significant way. However, we won't look to play for a 0-0 - we want to play football and go out and get the result we'd most like to have.''

…the personnel situation:

''Dennis Geiger underwent an operation immediately. Everything went smoothly and he is doing well. Robert Skov was back in training for the first time today and is a potential option for Sunday. Kevin Akpoguma might be able to make his return to training at the end of the week. Konstantinos Stafylidis, Mijat Gaćinović and Ishak Belfodil are still out injured. Ermin Bičakčić is undergoing recovery training, while Håvard Nordtveit's foot injury is gradually healing. Stefan Posch is still in quarantine. Benjamin Hübner remains unavailable due to his ankle injury.''

…the Bundesliga win in Bremen:

''We showed a good reaction in the few days we had between the two games. We managed the lead in very different ways. Against Bremen I noticed how certain players led and coached the team out there. I hope that in future we can show this little bit of cleverness to make sure we get over the line when we're in the lead. In any case, we're capable of creating big chances and scoring goals in every game we play.''

The scenario:

After the 3-3 draw in the first leg of the Round of 32 last week, TSG need a win or any draw with a scoreline of 2-2 or lower to progress.

Head-to-head record:

The first leg, played at the home ground of Spanish club Villareal, was the first ever meeting between TSG Hoffenheim and Molde FK. TSG had never previously faced a Norwegian club in a competitive game, while Molde have played VfB Stuttgart four times in the Europa League.
