TSG fail to spring surprise in Munich

TSG Hoffenheim performed well but came away empty-handed after going down 4-1 (2-1) at league leaders FC Bayern Munich. TSG produced a spirited showing and had several chances, but the Bavarians ultimately ran out clear winners and Andrej Kramarić's goal was not enough to salvage a point.

Personnel & tactics:

"Never change a winning team" was the motto adopted by head coach Sebastian Hoeness, who stuck with the same starting line-up that had beaten 1. FC Cologne 3-0 last time out for the trip to Bayern Munich. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was protected by a back three of Kasim Adams, Håvard Nordtveit and Stefan Posch, with Mijat Gaćinović and Marco John starting on the flanks. Diadie Samassékou partnered Sebastian Rudy at the heart of midfield, behind a flexible front three of Christoph Baumgartner, Ihlas Bebou and Andrej Kramarić.

TSG made a double substitution after going 3-1 down, with Kevin Vogt and Pavel Kadeřábek replacing Adams and Gaćinović (58). Sebastian Hoeness made another double switch around 15 minutes later, withdrawing Samassékou and Baumgartner for Florian Grillitsch and Ishak Belfodil (74). The fifth and final change saw Munas Dabbur come on for Bebou (81).

Moment of the match:

The eighth minute: some lovely link-up play from TSG set up Ihlas Bebou with a golden chance to put his side ahead. The striker had the beating of Jerome Boateng in the box but was then denied by Manuel Neuer's excellent save in the one-on-one. That was the big chance to open the scoring.

Number of the game: 4

Ihlas Bebou's cross to tee up Andrej Kramarić's goal was the Togo international's fourth assist of the campaign. He is now TSG's top assister this term.

Line-ups:

FC Bayern Munich: Neuer – Pavard, Boateng (Süle, 87), Alaba, Davies – Kimmich, Roca (Musiala, 69) – Gnabry (Sané, 69), Müller (Choupo-Moting, 74), Coman (Costa, 74) – Lewandowski
