27 September 2020: TSG 4-1 FC Bayern: A special success
It was a special day for TSG head coach Sebastian Hoeness, who had left the Bayern Munich reserves for Hoffenheim that summer. On Matchday 2 of the current campaign, he and his new team brought the Bavarian giants' stunning run of form to an end. The 4-1 defeat that day was FC Bayern's first competitive loss of 2020 – a year in which they had won the Bundesliga, DFB Cup, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup, the last of which Manuel Neuer & Co. had lifted only 60 hours prior to kick-off after beating Sevilla in Budapest. Ermin Bičakčić and Munas Dabbur scored in the 16th and 24th minutes respectively to fire TSG into a two-goal lead over the quadruple winners. Joshua Kimmich halved the deficit on the 36-minute mark, but "Hoffe" remained in the ascendancy and it was the outstanding Andrej Kramaric who extended the advantage to 3-1 in the 77th minute and then made it 4-1 from the spot in the 92nd minute. The final whistle sounded not long afterwards and Bayern's streak of 32 competitive matches unbeaten was over. And there's another reason why the game deserves a special mention: it was the last game that fans were allowed to attend, with 6,300 spectators at the PreZero Arena to witness a perfect Sunday for TSG.
