Baumgartner: ''It wasn't enough''

Here's what the players and coaches had to say after the 3-1 defeat to SC Freiburg.

Oliver Baumann: ''I am so annoyed. We can't keep defending the way we have been. We're conceding far too many cheap goals. Of course we suffered two big setbacks with the injuries to Sebastian Rudy and Kevin Akpoguma. All these injuries aren't going to make things easier for us. We had hoped and imagined that the year would start off differently.''

Kasim Adams: ''We got off to a good start. Unfortunately we then suffered two unlucky injuries, and then gave away a penalty and scored an own goal. We're clearly having problems keeping clean sheets at the moment. We put in a good performance in the second half. We had chances to draw close to them. We have to keep working, to keep focusing on the next game so that we can come back stronger.''

Christoph Baumgartner: ''That wasn't the start we were looking for, not in the match or the new year. We conceded three cheap goals, and despite seeing a lot of the ball in the first half, we weren't able to create any good chances. We threw everything at them after the break, but it wasn't enough. At this point in time, we shouldn't be looking at the table or our points total; we should just focus on the games. We have to keep working. We have two full weeks of training ahead of us. Of course we should be critical of ourselves, but we also know what we're capable of. We just have to show it again.''

Sebastian Hoeness: ''That was very sobering. We imagined the start to the new year going entirely differently. The way the first half turned out was like something from the script of a horror film. The first few minutes before the opening goal weren't too bad in my view. But then, all of a sudden, we're down 1-0 and have two players injured. That shook us. We were no longer so active and so compact without the ball. We didn't create enough chances.''

Christian Streich (SC Freiburg coach): ''We played very well in the first half. We were very good without the ball and very clinical in front of goal. We also benefited from a few little moments that you sometimes need in games like this. Once the second half got going, it was clear that we weren't going to have it easy. The last 20 minutes ended up being better.''
