No reward for valiant display

Despite putting in a decent display and having the better chances, there were no points for TSG Hoffenheim on Matchday 12 as they were beaten 1-0 (0-0) by RB Leipzig.

Personnel & tactics:

Sebastian Hoeness made four changes to the starting XI that lost 4-1 away to Bayer 04 Leverkusen last time out. Kevin Akpoguma and Kasim Adams returned to the team and lined up alongside Kevin Vogt and Ryan Sessegnon in a back four in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. Diadie Samassékou partnered Sebastian Rudy in central defensive midfield. Robert Skov started on the right of the attacking midfield trio, with Christoph Baumgartner on the left and Andrej Kramarić in the hole behind lone frontman Munas Dabbur.

TSG made two like-for-like substitutions in the 66th minute, with Mijat Gaćinović and Ishak Belfodil replacing Rudy and Dabbur. Ihlas Bebou came on in place of Skov in the 80th minute, before Maximilian Beier replaced Sessegnon in an attacking switch in stoppage time.

Moment of the match:

The 23rd minute: Hoffenheim executed a pre-planned corner routine and the unmarked Kasim Adams had an opportunity with a header from three metres out, but the defender put the ball wide with the goal gaping and spurned the chance to put TSG ahead.

Number of the game: 10

There were only 10 TSG players on the pitch when the goal was scored. While Kevin Vogt was receiving treatment on the sidelines, RB Leipzig took advantage of their numerical superiority and converted their only chance via Yussuf Poulsen to seal the win.

Line-ups:

TSG Hoffenheim: Baumann – Akpoguma, Adams, Vogt, Sessegnon (Beier, 90+2) – Rudy (Gaćinović, 66), Samassékou – Skov (Bebou, 80), Kramarić, Baumgartner – Dabbur (Belfodil, 66)

Goals: 0-1 Poulsen (60)

Match highlights

6. Min.

Brilliant corner-kick routine from TSG: Skov and Kramarić take a short corner. Rudy plays a one-two and then crosses the ball perfectly towards the back post, where Adams heads wide of the target from three metres out with the goal gaping. That should've been the opener!

60. Min.

Leipzig take the lead while Vogt is receiving treatment on the sidelines. A cross is played towards Sabitzer and he cushions it towards Poulsen, who fires home with his instep to put Leipzig ahead.

72. Min.

Hoffenheim's biggest chance in the second half. Sessegnon plays a brilliant cross into the middle towards Baumgartner, whose header is brilliantly saved by Gulacsi.
