Hoeness: "We have to show the necessary efficiency"

TSG Hoffenheim will travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach on the final Bundesliga matchday of 2020. Prior to facing the Foals on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 15:30 CET), head coach Sebastian Hoeness spoke about the opposition, the aims for the two matches before Christmas and the game against Leipzig.

Sebastian Hoeness on…

…the opposition: "Borussia Mönchengladbach are a strong team. That said, the last few weeks have shown that they aren't as consistent as Leverkusen or Leipzig have been recently. We need to play with courage and positive energy. If we show the necessary efficiency on Saturday as well, we can come away with some points."

…the objectives up until Christmas: "Our focus is already on Gladbach. We're now in battle mode for the final two games. We want to get a result on Saturday and beat Fürth to stay in the cup over the winter. Then we can reflect on what has been a demanding first half of the season and prepare for a demanding second half."

…the Leipzig game: "Unfortunately, the result was once again not what we'd hoped for. But we did put in a good performance. We still need to close the gap between performances and results. The other teams that are playing European football are managing slightly better at the moment. We need to work on that and make the breakthrough – in an ideal world, starting in Gladbach."

The opposition's form:

For the first time in the club's history, Borussia Mönchengladbach have qualified for the UEFA Champions League last 16. However, Marco Rose's team have won only one of their last six matches in the Bundesliga and currently occupy eighth place with 18 points on the board.

Head-to-head record:

Hoffenheim and Gladbach's head-to-head record in the Bundesliga is even with seven wins apiece after 24 matches. But TSG have not managed to win any of their last six meetings with Borussia (four draws and two defeats).
