Hoeness: ''Fürth have real quality''

TSG Hoffenheim will wave goodbye to 2020 on Tuesday evening (18:30 CET, liveticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de) when they host second-tier club SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the Second Round of the DFB Cup. Prior to the match with the Clover Leafs, TSG head coach Sebastian Hoeness spoke to the press about his objectives for the DFB Cup, the win away to Borussia Mönchengladbach and the personnel situation.

Sebastian Hoeness on…

… SpVgg Greuther Fürth: ''They have the ability to play in the Bundesliga. They are currently second in the table and put together a very good run of form recently. They would be able to hold their own against a lot of teams in the Bundesliga. The team are very well set-up tactically and solid in defence. It's going to be a massive challenge. We absolutely cannot afford to underestimate them.''

Tuesday's match-up: ''We will be helped by the fact that we played against Fürth in pre-season. We won 1-0, but it was a really tough match. You could already see back then that they were going to be contenders. We've been warned. We want to be in the cup after Christmas, so we have to beat Fürth at home.''

…the personnel situation: ''There are a few question marks in the squad. We'll have to wait and see with them. Apart from that, everyone is available. Regarding the long-term injuries, Pavel Kadeřábek is making good progress and should be an option for us in January. Benjamin Hübner, Ermin Bičakčić and Konstantinos Stafylidis will all need a bit longer.''

…the win in Mönchengladbach: ''The win has done us a lot of good. We've been putting in so much effort recently and we finally got our rewards. It was a huge joy and relief.''

The opposition's form:

SpVgg Greuther Fürth are placed second in the Bundesliga 2 table going into the new year. Coach Stefan Leitl's side go into the game on the back of a 3-0 win away to Eintracht Braunschweig last weekend.

Head-to-head record:

The two teams have played one another a total of seven times. TSG have won four and lost two of these past encounters. Both clubs have gone head-to-head on three previous occasions in the DFB Cup. Hoffenheim have won two of these cup meetings, but lost the most recent one at the quarter-final stage in 2012.
