Bebou: "We're ecstatic"

Here's what the players and coach had to say after the 2-1 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Oliver Baumann: "It was a very energy-sapping game. We made it too simple for Gladbach in the first half and had too few good moments on the ball ourselves. We're conceding goals too easily; we generally need to be cleverer. It demands an awful lot of energy to always be chasing the game. Our objective for the New Year must be that we become more consistent. It was loud and emotional at the break. That was important. Hats off for the second half. We really competed well as a team and played a top half."

Ihlas Bebou: "When the coach brings you on as a substitute, you have to be on your game immediately and perform. That worked well today. The first half was difficult for us. We didn't really get stuck into the challenges. In the end we had the necessary desire and are ecstatic that we won."

Håvard Nordtveit: "We've had some very difficult opponents in the past few days. The three points just before Christmas will do us a lot of good. Our performance wasn't good in the first half. Our coach then woke us up at half-time and we produced a better performance in the second half."

Ryan Sessegnon: "The first half was not good enough from us. We spoke about that at the break. After it went to 1-1 and Gladbach got the red card, we absolutely wanted the victory. Fortunately, we managed it. It feels super that I was able to score the winning goal today. We had to keep our calm throughout the match and we got our reward in the second half."

Andrej Kramarić: "It was a very important victory for us, even if we can definitely play better football. I hope that we can be successful again after the Christmas break, because we're obviously not currently satisfied with our position in the table. I'm still feeling some after-effects of having coronavirus and I'm not yet at 100%. I hope that I personally will be back to total fitness in the New Year and can play at the highest level."

Sebastian Hoeness: "We made a very bright start in the first half and had our opportunities. But we also had problems in defence as well. We had to defend large spaces and that allowed Gladbach to create chances. The penalty was completely unnecessary. We reacted at half-time and produced a better performance from the start of the second period. We then turned the game more in our favour. For us, the victory feels super. We invested a lot and from our point of view we deserve the win too given the second half. I'm really proud of the team."

Marco Rose (Borussia Mönchengladbach coach): "What Marcus Thuram did is unacceptable. I would like to apologise on behalf of the club. He didn't do the team any favours by doing that. That kind of thing doesn't belong on any football pitch. He is a very considerate person but he lost his temper today. We made a good start to the match and had a few good chances. Once we took the lead, we were trying to manage the 1-0 scoreline too much. We didn't move well enough with the ball and didn't go for the second goal."
