Hoeness: "We have huge respect for Gent"

TSG Hoffenheim are targeting their first-ever away win in the UEFA Europa League when they visit KAA Gent on Thursday (18:55 CET/Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). At the press conference prior to the match-up with the Belgians, TSG head coach Sebastian Hoeness spoke about the personnel situation, the opposition and his objectives in the Europa League.

Sebastian Hoeness on…

…the personnel situation: "Andrej Kramarić, Pavel Kadeřábek and Kasim Adams have not come with us to Gent. We hope they can return to the team soon. We still have a strong squad and we want to be successful. The lads give the impression that they're coping very well with the strain. Oliver Baumann is fit again and can play."

…the opposition: "We have huge respect for Gent. They're very strong individually. The squad is better than their position in the table suggests. The team is still finding its feet, but they have demonstrated what they're capable of. We're prepared for that and our goal is to be as successful as possible."

…his objectives in the Europa League: "We want to get through the group stages and a win would be hugely important to that end. We want to continue from where we left off against Red Star Belgrade."

The opposition's form:

Having finished last season with a second-place finish, KAA Gent have not met expectations this term: they are currently languishing down in 13th place with nine points from nine matches. Interim coach Wim De Decker's side also lost the opening game of their UEFA Europa League campaign  1-0 away to Slovan Liberec.

Head-to-head record:

The match against KAA Gent will be the first time TSG have come up against a Belgian club. The Buffalos, on the other hand, have already faced German opposition several times and even beat VfL Wolfsburg 3-1 away last season.
