Grillitsch: "We can build on this"

Here's what the players and coaches had to say after the 2-0 defeat to RB Leipzig.

Florian Grillitsch: "It wasn't a bad performance from us but in the end Leipzig deserved to win. We left ourselves open in the closing stages and could've conceded another goal. We had several chances towards the beginning in particular, but you'll lose if you don't take your chances and don't score goals. We gave it our all, played well and can build on this despite the result."

Oliver Baumann: "We were unlucky at the beginning. First the penalty decision was rescinded and then Leipzig scored two goals with two opportunities. We subsequently had a great deal of chances but didn't score a goal. We played good and aggressive football. The team's attitude was great too. What was missing was the reward. It was a good performance from us, one that we can build on."

Christoph Baumgartner: "All things considered, I believe that we were the better team today. Unfortunately the game is decided in the penalty box and Leipzig were more clinical in that regard. I personally should've scored at least one goal and even had a chance to put us ahead. Instead Leipzig went and scored the opening goal. It's obviously disappointing that we were not rewarded for our performance and got no points."

Sebastian Rudy: "We made a good start to the match. We were fully present for the first nine minutes; we had two good chances and the penalty situation. The quick brace was obviously far from ideal for us. We actually performed well. We had chances to score goals but we didn't convert them. We need to continue to play like that."

Alexander Rosen: "The penalty was obviously the moment that decided the match. We made a really good start, had a good chance to score and then got the penalty. Then it took almost three minutes. When that happens you know it wasn't a clear-cut situation. We were then dealt a double blow straightaway. That's obviously bitter. What impressed me was how the team kept playing afterwards. They created a lot of good opportunities. That's what we want to see. We believe we're on the right track."

Julian Nagelsmann (RB Leipzig coach): "It was a very exciting match. We got the rub of the green today. We obviously got lucky with the penalty and the Baumgartner chance, then we made it 1-0 and 2-0 with our first chances. We had a few problems keeping the ball in the final third, which gave our opponents hope. It remained tense, but Hoffenheim didn't have any more major opportunities. We ultimately deserved to win a match which fortunately panned out in our favour."
