DFL alters medical plan

The German Football League (DFL) and the German Football Association (DFB) have undertaken certain adjustments to the medical-organisational plan for the current exceptional matchday operations in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, the 3. Liga and the Flyeralarm Women's Bundesliga.

The adjustments made are predominately based on experiences drawn from all matchdays completed since the restart, but recent changes to the general hygiene regulations to contain the spread of Coronavirus have also been taken into account. The adjustments have been reviewed and accepted by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, in consultation with the responsible trade association, on the basis of the SARS-CoV-2 occupational safety standards. They will come into force in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 on the upcoming Matchday 31 and will provisionally apply until the end of the season, including the final of the DFB Cup.

Club personnel in the technical area (players, coaches, support staff) and members of club delegations in the stands will no longer be required to wear facemasks during matches, provided they are sat at a minimum distance of 1.5 metres from the nearest person. The same rule applies to fourth officials on the refereeing team, who move between the technical areas and, like players, coaches and support staff,  are regularly tested for Covid-19. The number of people permitted to work in the stadium has also been slightly increased. Among other things, this will double the number of journalists allowed to report from the stadium, in addition to the broadcast rights holders, from 13 to 26.

The absolute top priority of the DFL and the DFB remains the health of all concerned parties, the general population and the containment of the virus. The basic hygiene and distance measures enshrined in the medical-organisational plan continue to form the foundation of these efforts.
