TSG grind out three points in Bremen

It was tough-going but thanks to a strong second-half performance, TSG Hoffenheim ran out 3-0 (0-0) winners away to Werder Bremen on Matchday 19 of the Bundesliga season. Strikes from Christoph Baumgartner and Sargis Adamyan plus a Davy Klaassen own goal ensured the first victory of the year and an important three points for the visitors, who now sit seventh in the table.

Personnel & tactics:

Munas Dabbur was handed his first-ever start for TSG Hoffenheim as head coach Alfred Schreuder made four changes to the starting XI that faced Eintracht Frankfurt last time out. Philipp Pentke continued between the sticks. Ahead of him was a back three consisting of Kevin Akpoguma, who replaced the injured Håvard Nordtveit, Stefan Posch and captain Benjamin Hübner. The other two changes came at wing-back: Pavel Kadeřábek and Steven Zuber, who was making his first appearance since Matchday 1, were recalled to the starting line-up.

Florian Grillitsch continued alongside Sebastian Rudy at the heart of midfield, with Christoph Baumgartner in a slightly more attacking role and Andrej Kramarić alongside Dabbur in attack.

Dabbur's debut came to an end on the hour mark and he was replaced by Sargis Adamyan. The next change followed on 73 minutes as Zuber made way for Ihlas Bebou, who took his team-mate's place on the left flank. Midfielder Diadie Samassékou then came on as a replacement for goalscorer Baumgartner in the closing stages.

Moment of the match:

Hoffenheim's 2-0 lead: the threat appeared to have been thwarted following a nice counter but Baumgartner spotted an opportunity and  with a touch of genius  backflicked the ball over Pavlenka and in.

Number of the game: 1

It was the first time Philipp Pentke has kept a clean sheet in the Bundesliga and TSG's first victory since the restart.

Match highlights

13. Min.

Vogt has the best chance of the game so far when he meets a free-kick with a header, but it flies almost 10 metres over.

17. Min.

That'll go down as a missed opportunity for Hoffenheim. Klaassen's misplaced pass goes straight to Baumgartner, who plays in Kramarić. The Croatian forward is clean through on Pavlenka but his attempt strikes the side-netting.

53. Min.

Akpoguma switches the play brilliantly to Kramarić, who picks out Dabbur with his cross. But Vogt manages to block the striker's header just in front of Pavlenka.

65. Min.

What a strange goal that was. There's a goalmouth scramble following a corner and Kramarić attempts a bicycle kick. Klaassen tries to clear the danger but can only steer the ball towards his own goal. Perhaps Kaderabek got a touch on it in the end but the main thing is that Hoffenheim are ahead.

71. Min.

Great shot from Rudy, who takes a pop from 25 metres. The ball flies just over.

79. Min.

Dream goal alert: Adamyan wins the aerial battle against Vogt and feeds Kramarić. The Croat wants to play the ball to Baumgartner but it's intercepted. Baumgartner still manages to get to it though and scores with a backflick over Pavlenka in the Werder goal. Veljkovic only got to it once it had crossed the line.

83. Min.

What happened there? TSG score following a throw-in. Kramarić finds Adamyan, who does not think twice and immediately shoots. The ball takes a deflection past Pavlenka on its way into the net.
