Schreuder: "A very interesting opponent"

TSG Hoffenheim head coach Alfred Schreuder spoke at the press conference prior to the Bundesliga match away to Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Saturday at 15:30 CET/Live ticker at achtzehn99.de) about the opposition, the personnel situation and the importance of set-pieces.

Alfred Schreuder on…

…the opposition: "Leverkusen are a very interesting opponent. They have very strong attacking players and play brave and offensive football. I think it's fair to say they're one of the most watchable teams in the league."

…the personnel situation: "Everyone's trained well this week. We'll decide tomorrow who's in the squad. Things are looking up again for Benni Hübner. It's not yet set in stone but he might return to team training today."

…set-pieces: "We analyse offensive and defensive set-pieces both for us and the opposition. In our case, we haven't been too good defensively so far, but offensively I'm happy. They can be an important factor."

…TSG's playing style: "We want to play offensive football and try to find spaces while in possession. In the end, it's all about scoring one goal more than the opponent. It doesn't matter whether it ends 3-2 or 1-0."

The social media fan question of the week:

Is it better for you to observe the team during training sessions and let the assistant coaches do the work? Or do you prefer to be close to the team?

"I really like being close to the team and I like to do a lot of exercises myself. I think I've now found a good balance. At the start of the week, the assistant coaches do a lot as well. But I'm not the kind of coach who only observes."

The opposition's form:

Leverkusen have made a perfect start to the season, following up a 4-1 win away to Alemannia Aachen in the DFB Cup with wins against Paderborn and Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga. Coach Peter Bosz's side now sit in fifth place.

Head-to-head record:

TSG have only emerged victorious in five of their 22 Bundesliga meetings with Leverkusen (three draws and 14 defeats). However, Hoffenheim won both clashes by a 4-1 scoreline last term.
