Diadie Samassékou signs for TSG

On the brink of the new season, Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have strengthened their squad with their seventh new signing of the summer transfer window. Diadie Samassékou will join the Kraichgau-based club from reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions RB Salzburg. The 23-year-old Mali international has signed a deal which will keep him at TSG until 30 June 2024.

"We've said again and again over the past few weeks that, if we were to come across an opportunity on the transfer market that convinced us in every respect, then we'd make a move," says TSG Director of Football Alexander Rosen. "Diadie is a player who one hundred percent fit the bill. He's an extremely exciting and promising midfielder. He has enormous potential and is someone who, despite his young age, can already look back on a wealth of international experience. We're absolutely delighted and also somewhat proud that we've been able to sign such a highly-rated player, with incredible power and footballing intelligence," says Rosen.

During his time at Austrian first-tier side RB Salzburg, Diadie Samassékou made 39 appearances alone in Champions League qualification and Europa League matches. He played a total of 83 matches in the Austrian Bundesliga, scoring one goal. His performances in Salzburg attracted the attention of various top European clubs. With this in mind, TSG head coach Alfred Schreuder is very happy that he can look forward to having Samassékou in his squad for the coming season: ''Diadie has already proven himself at the highest level. He's a very special footballer - almost the complete midfielder. He's not just athletic and strong in the tackle; he's also brilliant from a technical perspective.''

''I'm really excited to move to TSG and play in the Bundesliga,'' says the 23-year-old Malian. ''I took a conscious decision to move to this club. Hoffenheim are well-known internationally for their track record in promoting and developing young talent,'' says Samassékou.

The 1.77 metre tall midfielder first came to Austria in 2015, joining FC Liefering from Malian first division club Real Bamako . He joined RB Salzburg a year later, in 2016, where he would go on to make 134 appearances, winning the Austrian title three times and the Austrian cup twice. Another highlight of his time in Salzburg was last season's run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, ultimately going out to top Serie A side SSC Napoli. In addition, Samassékou has won nine caps for the Mali national team.
