DFB Cup Second Round: The possible opponents at a glance

On Sunday afternoon, TSG Hoffenheim will kick off their 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign with a trip to Eintracht Frankfurt (15:30 CET/Live ticker at achtzehn99.de). Shortly after the final whistle, the draw for the DFB Cup Second Round will be conducted on ARD's Sportschau program (18:00 CET). achtzehn99.de brings you the lowdown on TSG's possible opponents below.

The first hurdle was cleared last weekend, as TSG Hoffenheim became one of 32 teams to reach the DFB Cup Second Round thanks to a 5-4 penalty shootout victory (HT: 2-2; FT: 3-3) in a thrilling first-round encounter with third-tier outfit Würzburger Kickers. Among those to qualify were four lower-league clubs: MSV Duisburg, 1. FC Kaiserslautern (both in the third tier), 1. FC Saarbrücken (Regionalliga Südwest) and SC Verl (Regionalliga West).

The clubs will be divided into two groups for the draw on Sunday. Pot 1 will contain the teams from the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga, while Pot 2 will consist solely of Duisburg, Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken and Verl. Those four clubs are guaranteed home advantage in their Second Round tie and cannot play against each other. They will be drawn first on Sunday, with the draws for the remaining ties to be conducted thereafter. The team drawn first in each pairing will have home advantage.

Last DFB Cup home game in 2014

That means TSG could face any one of the other 32 teams and could even play at home at the PreZero Arena, which has not happened in the DFB Cup in almost five years: their last cup tie in Sinsheim was on 29 October 2014, when FSV Frankfurt were the opponents in a 5-1 Second Round victory.

The Second Round is scheduled to take place on 29 and 30 October. The precise times and dates will be scheduled by the DFB 10-12 days after the draw, which will be conducted by former Germany international and special studio guest Christoph Metzelder.
