Hoffenheim complete 4-1 rout of Leverkusen

TSG Hoffenheim picked up a very important win on Matchday 27 as they swept aside Bayer Leverkusen 4-1 (1-1) in a highly watchable and exciting encounter. Ishak Belfodil (two), Nadiem Amiri and Andrej Kramaric, now the club's record goalscorer in the top-flight, got the goals.

Personnel & tactics:

Coach Julian Nagelsmann made three changes to the starting XI that drew 1-1 in Stuttgart last time out. Benjamin Hübner replaced Stefan Posch at the heart of defence, where he formed a partnership with club captain Kevin Vogt. Oliver Baumann kept his place between the sticks, while the full-back berths in the back four were occupied by Joshua Brenet, who filled in for the suspended Nico Schulz on the left flank, and Pavel Kaderabek on the right side.

The switch to a back four saw Ermin Bicakcic drop to the bench in favour of Leonardo Bittencourt, who had made a substitute appearance in Stuttgart. Bittencourt played alongside Florian Grillitsch and Kerem Demirbay in midfield, with Joelinton, Andrej Kramaric and Ishak Belfodil the front three.

Joelinton was forced off in the 51st minute with an injury and Nadiem Amiri entered the fray in his stead. The second change came around 25 minutes later when Bittencourt made way for David Otto, who was making only his third Bundesliga appearance. The third and final change came on the 87-minute mark when Bicakcic replaced Belfodil, who was deservedly applauded off.

Moment of the match:

The goal that put Hoffenheim 2-1 ahead. Nadiem Amiri had been on the pitch for less than 60 seconds when he scored to re-establish the home side's lead and put them on course for an important three points on his 100th Bundesliga appearance.

Number of the game: 47

Andrej Kramaric scored the fourth and final goal and now has 47 goals for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. That means he has overtaken Sejad Salihovic and is now TSG's record goalscorer in the top flight.
