Baumann: "We deserved to lose"

Here we bring you the reactions from the players and both coaches after TSG Hoffenheim were beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich.

Oliver Baumann: "There was more in it for us. We didn't make a good start, were defensive, completely sat back and didn't give ourselves a breather. We didn't get it right in the first half. Perhaps the emotion was missing. We didn't have any control. The second period was significantly better, we switched to a back four and played more man for man. But it wasn't enough and we deserved to lose."

Leonardo Bittencourt: "We were caught out in the first half like in the reverse fixture and we did not show any of what we had set out to do. We then deservedly fell 2-0 behind. We didn't get stuck into the challenges, perhaps we showed too much respect. Only in the second half did we show our strengths and pull a goal back. Ultimately, Bayern deserved the victory. But it's a shame that we only produced what is needed to beat a team like them for one half."

Nico Schulz: "We were completely caught napping in the first half. Then it becomes difficult when you're 2-0 down to Bayern. We got too many of the small details wrong, got it wrong in attack and were not offensive enough. Perhaps that might be enough against other teams but it isn't against Bayern Munich. We believed in ourselves because we've often bounced back from setbacks. But you need to have a little bit of luck on your side and that wasn't the case for us today."

Julian Nagelsmann: "We had some major problems in the first period. Going 2-0 down on the stroke of half-time was bitter. In the second half we changed our formation. The victory is more than fair because we didn't play with the required presence for the 90 minutes. You could sense an extreme respect, similar to the fear we showed in the reverse fixture. We played too many long balls in the first half, did not put them under enough pressure, it was like a training run. We didn't press which is why our procedures stopped working. Things improved in the second period once we changed the formation and we put them under more pressure. We played with more courage and their players didn't have the same luxury of time on the ball like in the first half. But it wasn't enough against an opponent that was superior to us. I can live with the second half but the first half was not the kind of performance we wanted."

Niko Kovac (Bayern Munich coach): "I think we saw an excellent Bundesliga match. Both halves were very good. We showed in today's match that we're a force. We knew it wouldn't be easy. We hope we're able to carry this momentum forward into our next matches. Our objective is clear: we want to become champions. When we win, it puts Dortmund under pressure and they need to follow suit."
