Moisander: "Our major goal is Europe"

Niklas Moisander, 33, joined Werder Bremen two-and-a-half years ago. Interviewed by achtzehn99.de, the central defender talks about last season, the transformation at Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim's strengths.

Mr Moisander, in just a few days the first half of the Bundesliga season will be over. Are you happy with how it's panned out for Werder Bremen?

''Overall, we're on the right track. If we're able to win one of our remaining two matches then we'll be satisfied going into the Winter break. We've certainly done better this time round than we did in both of the past two seasons.''

On Wednesday, TSG Hoffenheim will be your opponents. Both teams find themselves in similar positions in the table. What will the match come down to?

''Two good teams are going head-to-head, so I'm expecting a really intense game. When all is said and done, the fine margins will have proved decisive.''

What are your goals for the season?

''In the summer we set ourselves the goal of qualifying for Europe, and that's still in place. We know that it's a really tough task, but it's our major objective and it's a dream shared by the whole team. We're going to work extremely hard towards it.''

"Hoffenheim are well-stocked in all positions''

You've been a Bremen player for the past two-and-a-half years. How has the club changed in this time?

''The main difference is in the mentality. All those involved in the club - the coaches, the manager, the staff and the players - are looking up and not down. Everyone wants to be successful. The frame of mind of every single person has been transformed.''

You're the defensive leader in Bremen. One of the most dangerous attacking sides in the league will line up against you on Wednesday. What makes Hoffenheim so good going forward?

''All of Hoffenheim's attacking players can make something happen on their own, plus they're physically strong and play good football. We're all very familiar with Ishak Belfodil from last season and we look forward to facing him again. But Hoffenheim aren't just well-stocked in attack; they have quality in all positions.''
