TSG suffer last-gasp loss to Shakhtar
Personnel and tactics
Julian Nagelsmann made two changes to the starting XI that claimed a 3-3 draw against Hertha Berlin at the weekend. The back four protecting shot-stopper Oliver Baumann consisted of Pavel Kaderabek, Kevin Vogt, Ermin Bicakcic and Nico Schulz, while Steven Zuber was recalled and formed a midfield trio alongside Havard Nordtveit and Kerem Demirbay,
A knock ruled out Joelinton and he was replaced by Ishak Belfodil, who started up front alongside Adam Szalai and Andrej Kramaric.
After Szalai's dismissal in the 59th minute, Nordtveit dropped back into defence and formed a back three with Vogt and Bicakcic, leaving the wide men much more freedom to attack.
Julian Nagelsmann made his first substitution in the 77th minute, introducing Reiss Nelson in place of goalscorer Zuber. That was followed by a double substitution seven minutes later, with Florian Grillitsch and Vincenzo Grifo replacing Nordtveit and Schulz.

As they did against Lyon, TSG came back from two goals down to draw level at 2-2. Nagelsmann's charges then had two clear-cut opportunities to win the match, but both Nico Schulz and Reiss Nelson fired wide and Shakhtar got the all-important winner, having previously hit the woodwork twice. Taison's second goal condemned TSG to a second defeat in the Champions League group stages.
