"We'll be up against a very good attack"

Coach Julian Nagelsmann and captain Kevin Vogt spoke at the press conference prior to the UEFA Champions League home game against Olympique Lyon (Tuesday, 21:00 CET/Live Ticker on achtzehn99.de) about the opposition, the group and the personnel situation.

Julian Nagelsmann on…

…the third group game: "A win would be significant for us. We'd go level on points with Lyon. Then there'd be a much greater chance of progressing. Were we to lose, Lyon would have a six-point lead over us and then it'd be difficult to go through. We boosted our self-confidence at the weekend and I have a very good feeling that we'll take the three points tomorrow."

…Olympique Lyon: "Lyon's major strength is the carefree attitude of their young players, which makes them very unpredictable. Their attacking strength starts with the wing-backs and then continues via good players in the centre. The key will be to defend well and to identify spaces."

…the personnel situation: "Joshua Brenet and Ishak Belfodil resumed training on Sunday. We need to keep tabs on how they cope with the training. I'm under the assumption that both will be available. Leonardo Bittencourt still has problems with his stomach musculature. The objective is to have him available for the weekend."

…the TSG fans: "The support of the fans is always important, Tuesday will be no different to our other games in that regard. In Nuremberg the support was very impressive. It's important that everyone in the stadium wearing our colours cheers us on."

Kevin Vogt on…

…the previous Champions League matches: "We put in a very good away performance in the first match against Shakhtar. However, we didn't use the chances we had to win in Donetsk. That's quite a bit more important in the Champions League than it is in the Bundesliga. The team really battled hard against Manchester City and was unlucky to lose. The lads delivered an outstanding performance and it was annoying that we didn't get a point as a reward. But we showed we're capable of competing at that level and we want to get our first win against Lyon."

…the opposition: "You always have relatively little time to prepare for opponents in English weeks. It's no secret that Olympique Lyon have players with great individual quality. We'll be up against a very good attack. It'll be an exciting task and one I'm really looking forward to."

…the group situation: "Manchester City are the team with the greatest quality in the group. We're still an underdog in the group, but we've given a good account of ourselves in the first two matches. Our objective is to get the first win and get ourselves into a good position in the table."

The opposition's form

Olympique Lyon occupy fifth place in Ligue 1 after 10 rounds of matches in France. However, they already trail runaway league leaders Paris St. Germain by 13 points. Lyon beat newly-promoted Nimes by a 2-0 scoreline at the weekend.

Head-to-head record

It is the first meeting between the two teams.
