"In the second half, VfB didn't have a chance"

This is what the coach and the players had to say about the 4-0 derby day win against VfB Stuttgart.

Kevin Vogt: "We're getting alright at playing every three days now. It was also important that we scored early after the break so that we could ease off towards the end, as we have some tough challenges ahead of us. In the first half, we lacked progression and punch in the final third. At halftime, we spoke about what to improve on and that enabled us to create chances. It was an incredibly enjoyable game to play, given that we've had a few games where we were creating chances without scoring."

Oliver Baumann: "We didn't start well, which is when Mario Gomez had his chance. We needed to watch out for counters as we weren't defending them well. We had a lot of problems caused by Stuttgart's long balls. After the four quick goals just after halftime, the game was over. We just had to see it through and you have to keep everyone awake so it doesn't all go wrong. The coach didn't say much at all at halftime. Our problem was that we had to many of our men in front of their defence and not enough in their danger area. We changed that in the second half and that worked well for us."

Ermin Bicakcic: "One good thing, was the red card. We did really well in the second half, we stopped their counter-attacks, scored goals and kept a clean sheet. It was a successful Bundesliga Matchday. For me, games against Stuttgart always have a certain feel, but you forget that for 90 minutes."

Kerem Demirbay: "At the break, the coach told us which spaces to get into. We were quite shocked in the first half, that VfB received a red card and weren't finding the spaces. Then we changed to a 3-5-2 system. After the halftime talk, we changed it up well in the second half and scored four goals. I like playing in holding midfield because I like defending 1v1 challenges. Also, I get more of the ball than when I play in attacking midfield."

Julian Nagelsmann: "I'm happy that we kept a clean sheet, although we were lucky on two occasions. After 25 minutes, we found ourselves in the game a bit more. It's normal to need a bit more time after playing a Champions League game like that and it was noticeable. I was actually a little annoyed at the red card, because our plan didn't really fit anymore, so we had to change. In the second half, VfB didn't stand a chance. If we can perform like we did in the second half, we should be able to get past Leipzig in the Cup."

Markus Weinzierl (VfB Stuttgart coach): "Congrats to TSG for their win. The game was decided in the 8th minute today. We did well with 10 men in the first half. Had Mario Gomez given us the lead, the game could have been different. To concede four goals in 12 minutes is brutal. After the first goal, we were on the road to defeat. TSG has a great squad and great individual players."
