Late defeat in Düsseldorf

TSG Hoffenheim lost their away match to promoted side Fortuna Düsseldorf 1-2. Reiss Nelson equalised on behalf of TSG to offer them temporary reprieve, but Dodi Lukebakio converted from the spot shortly before time to decide the game.

PERSONNEL AND TACTICS

Julian Nagelsmann opted to make three changes to the side that had recorded a 3-1 home win over SC Freiburg. Kasim Adams and Bicakcic were not in the starting eleven due to injury. The two defenders were replaced by Havard Nordtvelt and Stefan Posch. The two new introductions were complemented by Kevin Vogt to build a back three in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. The wing back positions were taken up by Pavel Kaderabek and Nico Schulz.

Julian Nagelsmann played Florian Grillitsch in midfield as well as Leonardo Bittencourt and Andrej Kramaric either side of him. The World Cup runner up came in for Steven Zuber in the starting formation. The team was completed by the two attacking players Adam Szalai and Joelinton.

TSG made two substitutions early on in the second half. Ishak Belfodil and Steven Zuber were sent on for Joelinton and Leonardo Bittencourt in one-for-one swaps. Furthermore, Englishman Reiss Nelson was to celebrate his debut. The new signing replaced Stefan Posch.

The goal for 1-1. Reiss Nelson shot from a half-left position and scored a goal in his first appearance wearing TSG colours, having played just 14 minutes in the Bundesliga.
