New striker Ekene arrives from Leverkusen

Shortly before the Regionalliga derby against Waldhof Mannheim, TSG signed on a new member to strengthen the U23 squad in the form of Chinedu Ekene. The 19-year-old striker arrived from Bayer 04 Leverkusen and will celebrate his debut in a "Hoffe" shirt tomorrow.

Chinedu Ekene moved through the ranks at Leverkusen all the way from the U8s up to the U19s, also reaching the national youth squad. In the summer, the 19-year-old attacker was selected to join Leverkusen's senior squad before he chose to make the move to TSG to hunt for goals in the U23 squad.

Youth Academy Director Dirk Mack has great confidence in the new attacking power. "Chinedu Ekene is a highly talented offensive player who hasn't played as much as he wanted in the last two years, due to injury. We want to help him get a foothold on senior football and to fully take advantage of his capabilities."

Despite frequent absences due to injury, the Wuppertal born player with Nigerian roots has scored 23 goals in the A and B Youth Bundesliga West leagues. In addition, Ekene has been selected 11 times for the U17, U16 and U15 DFB squad, where he added 2 goals to his tally.

As the 19-year-old is already eligible to play, he could make his "Hoffe Two" debut tomorrow in the derby against Waldhof Mannheim (14:00 CET Dietmar-Hopp-Stadium).
