U17s win tournament in Horrheim, U13s finish runners-up

The U17 and U13 Junior Girls delivered a strong display at a well-attended AERA Cup hosted by SV Horrheim on Saturday. The U17s saw off competition from several rivals from the B Junior Girls' Bundesliga en route to winning the tournament, while the U13s were beaten in the final and had to settle for a silver medal.

There were six opponents awaiting the TSG U17 Junior Girls on Saturday at the AERA Cup hosted by SV Horrheim, with Melanie Fink and Dominik Hager's charges coming up against the likes of league rivals SC Freiburg, SV Alberweiler and SpVgg Greuther Fürth. They started well with a 1-0 victory over FV Löchgau, before earning themselves a goalless stalemate against SC Freiburg thanks to some consistent defending. Despite a plethora of clear-cut chances, there were again no goals as the TSG U17 Junior Girls took on hosts SV Horrheim in their next match − but they then delivered a strong performance against SV Alberweiler, with U15 player Antonia Münch grabbing the all-important goal in a 1-0 victory. "We've come with a very young squad, but still managed to put in a performance," said Fink and Hager as they lauded their squad. The U17s then rewarded themselves for their good performances by beating FC Ingolstadt 2-0 to win the tournament. "We were very satisfied," said TSG's management duo. "We achieved our objectives for long stretches of the tournament."

Meanwhile, the U13s narrowly missed out on claiming a gold medal. Coach Frank Marx's side made it all the way to the final, where they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by SGM Donzdorf. Elsewhere, the U15 Junior Girls suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the SG Münzesheim U15 Juniors in a friendly match on Saturday.
