Reaction after #TSGWOB: "At our best today"

The players and coach were overjoyed after the 3-0 victory against VfL Wolfsburg on matchday 26 in the Bundesliga.

Julian Nagelsmann: “We wanted to play exactly how we played against Augsburg. We didn’t quite start as well as we would have hoped, we didn’t create a lot and so we started to defend a little bit higher, managed to win the ball back that bit quicker and get some more possession. After we made it 1-0, then we really were the dominant side and should have gone in at half time with a bigger lead. After the break, Wolfsburg changed things up a bit tactically, doubling up on the wings, which created some problems. In the middle of the pitch we didn’t have a lot of room. The second goal gave us the security we needed. We deserved to win the game today. Wolfsburg are a good side and they caused us a lot of problems today. We’re over the moon with the three points and we were glad to put on a good show for the fans.”

Bruno Labbadia (Wolfsburg coach): “It’s not good fun standing answering questions today. Until the first goal, we passed the ball round well and kept the tempo as we wanted but after we went down, we totally lost it. After that, we were lucky a few times and were fortunate that the score-line only stood at 1-0 going in at the break. In the first 45 we didn’t get a lot right. At the break we told the team that Hoffenheim will be frustrated by the score and that we need to use our chances better in the second half. After the break we improved and had the chance to equal things up but in the end they made it 2-0. Then our heads naturally started to go down, so we needed to react better. The defeat is very hard to take.”

Nico Schulz: “The applause we heard from the dressing room was all ours because of the way we played out there today. I’m really happy with my performance, especially in the first half but it’s far more important that we won as a team and got the three points. We played well when we had the ball and pressed well when we didn’t. Today you saw what we can do as a team. We want to play at our best again and again because when we do, we’re tough to stop.”

Pavel Kaderabek: “Of course it feels great. The second win in a row and three more points on the board, which is great. Next week we’re off to Borussia, which is a really important game for us. We played really well in the first half today, the best half we’ve had this side of the winter break even though we only managed to get one goal. After the break we got our reward, scoring a couple. Today I never doubted the result. The twenty minutes after half-time weren’t the best but the second goal was massive. A huge thank you to the fans, they were great today.”

Oliver Baumann: “We had to wait a bit for the second and third goals. After such domination in the first-half we had to go in with more than a one goal lead. I reckon we could’ve gone in 3-0 up and there would have been no complaints. When we came back out, they made it a bit more difficult for us but as a team we hung on in there and still created chances. We massively deserved our victory today and it was really important to keep our momentum rolling. In the weeks to come we can only go in one direction. We’ve got to continue our unbeaten run that we started last week.”
