TSG fall short against FC Bayern

TSG were beaten 5-2 away at record champions FC Bayern München on matchday 20 in the Bundesliga. Mark Uth and Serge Gnabry had put the visitors in front inside 12 minutes, but the league leaders fought back through Lewandowski, Boateng, Coman, Vidal and Wagner.

Tactics and line-up:

TSG head coach made just one change to the team that faced Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday for the trip south to face Bayern München at the Allianz Arena – Mark Uth coming into the starting XI for Adam Szalai.

The team lined up in the usual 3-5-2 formation, with the intention of taking the game to the league leaders. Serge Gnabry and Mark Uth led the line in attack, ahead of the midfield three of Dennis Geiger, Lukas Rupp and Florian Grillitsch. Steven Zuber and Pavel Kaderabek attacked the flanks, while also providing support for the back three of Ermin Bicakcic, Kevin Vogt and Benjamin Hübner fallen.

Moment of the Match:

At 2-2, TSG have Bayern pegged back at their own corner flag, but with a bit of luck and trickery, the hosts played their way out of danger and into the counter attack. Space opens up and Lewandowski finds Coman in the box to score the breakthrough third goal.

Number of the Match: 63

TSG were desperate to bring the points home from Munich and gave everything in their efforts. The proof? Hoffenheim won 63% of their challenges - against the best team in the league. Unfortunately it wasn't enough.
