Late defeat in Dortmund

TSG’s final game of 2017 ended with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on matchday 17 in the Bundesliga. Mark Uth had put Hoffenheim in front in the first half, but a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty and Christian Pulisic’s late strike saw BVB complete the turnaround.

Team news

Julian Nagelsmann made three changes to the sides that recorded a derby win over VfB Stuttgart during the week, with Steven Zuber, Nadiem Amiri and Florian Grillitsch coming in for Nico Schulz, Lukas Rupp and the suspended Dennis Geiger. It was the usual 3-5-2 formation from TSG, with captain Kevin Vogt, Benjamin Hübner and Stefan Posch making up the back three in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. Pavel Kaderabek and Zuber began out wide, Grillitsch, Kerem Demirbay and Amiri played centrally, while Serge Gnabry and Mark Uth led the line.

The coach made his first change in the 62nd minute, introducing Andrej Kramaric in place of Gnabry, followed by another attacking change seven minutes later, as Adam Szalai came on for Uth, who had had been struggling with a shoulder problem following a first-half challenge. Kevin Akpoguma replaced Posch in the 90th minute for the final change.

Moment of the match:

Adam Szalai’s genius back-heel pass to create the chance for Pavel Kaderabek in the 78th minute. Sadly the full-back couldn’t finish it off, but it was football right out of the top drawer.

Number of the match: 50+

TSG won over half of the 1v1 duels against Borussia Dortmund, and also had over 50 percent of the possession – impressive stuff from Julian Nagelsmann’s boys, but sadly not rewarded with any points.
