TSG claim point in Istanbul

TSG played out a 1-1 draw with Turkish Süper Lig side Basakeshir on matchday 4 in the Europa League. Florian Grillitsch had given TSG the lead shortly after the break with his first European goal, but the hosts hit back through Edin Visca in injury time to save a draw. The result leaves TSG on four points, behind leaders Ludogrets (8) and Braga (7), both of whom are coming up for Julian Nagelsmann’s side on the final two matchdays.

Line-up and tactics

Julian Nagelsmann named the following players in his starting XI on for the match in Istanbul: Oliver Baumann, Havard Nordtveit, Kerem Demirbay, Florian Grillitsch, Sandro Wagner, Nico Schulz, Steven Zuber, Nadiem Amiri, Kevin Vogt, Justin Hoogma and Andrej Kramaric. Incidentally, the fixture saw Netherlands youth international and summer signing Hoogma make his competitive debut for the club.

TSG started in a 3-5-2 formation, with Vogt, Nordtveit and Hoogma lining up in front of goalkeeper Baumann. Zuber and Schulz providing attacking stimulus and defensive support as wingbacks. Grillitsch, Demirbay and Amiri formed the midfield three behind Kramaric and Wagner up front.

The first change came prematurely in the 24th minute, when Kevin Vogt carried off injured and replaced by Stefan Posch. Philipp Ochs then replaced Amiri and Dennis Geiger came on for Demirbay with 15 minutes left to play.

Moment of the match:

The TSG players gave their all and put their bodies on the line to block every ball and cross into the box. Despite their efforts, they just couldn't hold on and the equaliser feel perfectly for Visca in the final minute of injury time
