#WOBTSG reaction: "A disappointing result."

Reactions of the players and coaches after TSG’s 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg on Sunday night.

Julian Nagelsmann:

I have to split my analysis of this game. On one hand the way we played and on the other the result. I’ll start with the shorter answer. I am 100% not satisfied with the result. It was an avoidable two points dropped for us. I am very happy with the way we played, because we started so well. We could have taken the lead twice in the first five minutes, and it can help so much when you take the lead early in the middle of a run of games, but that didn’t happen today. The penalty was a key turning point and thank God it did not go in. I cannot believe that it was given. Origi simply fell into my defender. It’s not gone into but that kind of event gave the opponent so much incentive. We kept going and were very dominant while defending well. We needed that second goal after going ahead. We could easily have wrapped up the points – and they would have been deserved. For that we can thank Wolfsburg because they kept going until the end. It was a good corner and tough to defend- It’s the same scenario as last week against Augsburg – a very disappointing result.

Martin Schmidt:

To draw fort he fifth game in a row is nto completely ideal but we cannot be disatisfied with another game without defeat. It was a case of mentality for us today. We came back into the game and our confidence grew. I was very happy with the first half. We found room down the wings and were able to attack well off both sides. We still have a lot of work to do and we are yet to back up our good work early. They got better in the second half and you could see we played against one of the best teams in the league today.

Oliver Baumann:

I was convinced Max Arnold would go left with his penalty, but thankfully I was able to block it with my foot. It was a great game. We had a few chances in the first half, but they were all blocked. We often had men over spare in the second period. We need to get that second goal and close the door back into the game. The fact that that didn’t happen is frustrating. They stayed in the game, kept fighting and got a point for their efforts in the end.

Florian Grillitsch:

We are obviously disappointed because we did not bring home our advantage. We only have ourselves to blame for that because we missed so many chances on the break. Despite the final result we will take the positives and keep looking forward.

Kerem Demirbay:

For the penalty I took the ball, made the decision I wanted to shoot and simply fired it home. But we needed to seal the game after taking the lead. We needed that second goal, and then we would not have had any problems at the end. Oliver Baumann played a fantastic game today. He could do nothing about the goal, it was too good to stop.
