#TSGFCA post-match reaction: "The chances were there"

Coaches and players react to the 2-2 draw with FC Augsburg on Bundesliga Matchday 8.

Julian Nagelsmann: "We had a very good start, but our tempo dropped after ten minutes. As Augsburg grew into the game, we began to lack ideas. Sandro Wagner’s offside goal was correctly ruled out, but it helped our game as we were no longer so flat and sluggish. Augsburg defended well, regained possession well and had big chances through Finnbogason. Shortly before the break we upped the tempo again and showed what was to come in the second half. After the break we were clearly better. Unfortunately our finishing was often lacking, we should have scored a few from set pieces and we had some big chances in the box. Even after conceding we took the lead with a fine goal and should have scored another – but we didn’t. When you consider that, a draw was fair.

Manuel Baum: "We played a good first half, defended well and created chances. In the second half, Hoffenheim came into the game well and deserved to take the lead. Wagner held the ball up well – it was a very good half from them. But as we’ve shown so far this season time and time again, we never give up, and we have a plethora of dangerous players we can bring on from the bench. At the end of the day, it’s a point that probably was the right result considering how the first half went.

Mark Uth: “We simply didn’t play well enough in the first half. We didn’t concentrate well enough, lost the ball too much and played a lot of poor passes. In the second half however, we could have gone ahead by three, maybe four goals. We wanted to win this game really badly. We played well enough to win this game, but we just didn’t score enough goals.”

Pavel Kaderabek: “We should have won this game. In my eyed we didn’t play enough crosses and create enough chances. We have to score earlier so that we put our opponents on the back foot from the beginning. We didn’t do that, and in the last few minutes we conceded the equaliser. It may have ended in a draw, but we were the better team.”

Nadiem Amiri: “We put them under a lot of pressure in the first 30 minutes, and created a few chances that we should have done more with. Augsburg made some good progress too, but we did enough to keep them out. We were quite happy for them to defend very deeply. Despite that, we just have to do better with the chances that we do eventually get.”

Sandro Wagner: “When you play like we did you expect to win, so to come away with a draw is frustrating. We conceded the goals too cheaply. We had enough chances to score more, but all the same, two goals should have been enough to carry us to victory.”
