TSG Pokal hopes ended by Werder Bremen

A spirited effort from TSG was not enough to see them through tot he third round oft he DFB Pokal as Werder Bremen secured a 1-0 victory at the Weserstadion on Wednesday night- Ishak Belfodil’s strike in the 31st minute was enough for the hosts.

Line-up and tactics

Julian Nagelsmann made four changes from the side that started Sunday’s game with Wolfsburg. Oliver Baumann was rested in goal, as Gregor Kobel took his place for the second time this season in the DFB Pokal. Kevin Akpoguma, meanwhile, made his first start for TSG. Defender Lukas Rupp and striker Robin Hack were the other changes for 1899.

Kevin Vogt, Benni Hübner, Steven Zuber, Florian Grillitsch, Kerem Demirbay, Mark Ith and Andrej Kramaric formed the rest of the side which started in 3-5-2 formation. Hübner, Vogt and Akpoguma started at the back, with Zuber and Rupp forming the left and right wing-backs respectively. Grillitisch and Demirbay started in the centre, with Kramaric, Uth and Hack up front.

Nagelsmann waited until the start of the second half to change things up, as Pavel Kaderabeck came on Robin Hack, with Nico Schulz replacing Steven Zuber later on before Philipp Ochs came on for Lukas Rupp in the final change.

It would have been the deserved equaliser, but Andrej Kramaric is so unlucky to see his perfect strike bounce back of the bar.
